How it works

How the directory works

Three straightforward steps, with no registration and no middle party.

  1. Step 1

    Search for a teacher

Filter the directory by language, location, lesson format, learner age, level and specialism. Searching is completely free.

  2. Step 2

    Explore teacher profiles

Read full profiles, including each teacher's approach, qualifications, experience and the learners they work with best.

  3. Step 3

    Contact your chosen teacher directly

Send an enquiry straight to the teacher. They will reply to you themselves and you arrange things between you.

HILT helps people discover independent language teachers. HILT does not employ the teachers, arrange lessons, or take part in agreements between teachers and learners.

I love languages, I love teaching and I love that I can combine both and help other people. I speak English as my native language as well as German, French, Russian and Spanish. I am a fully qualified teacher with 20 years’ experience of teaching in UK state and independent schools both at primary and secondary level. My teaching experience includes GCSE and A-level exam preparation in all language skills and also the marking of GCSE speaking exams. I enjoy travelling, using my languages in real settings; I have lived in both Germany and Russia as well as spending a lot of time with family in France and holidaying in Spain. I bring the culture of the countries where these languages are spoken into my teaching and aim to inspire my learners with a life-long love of languages.

About HILT

Created by independent language teachers, for independent language teachers

HILT was started by two independent language teachers who know how hard it can be to be found by learners, and how isolating working alone can feel. We wanted somewhere teachers could be visible and supported at the same time.
